Description

Delicious homemade chocolate glazed donuts that are soft and fluffy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. This step always reminds me to slow down. Good things take a little patience.
  2. Make the Dough: Add sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually stir in flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should feel soft but not sticky.
  3. Let It Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let it rise for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size. Watching the dough puff up is like witnessing kitchen magic.
  4. Shape the Donuts: Roll the dough to about ½ inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters. Place them on a lined tray and let them rest for 30 minutes.
  5. Fry to Golden Perfection: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. The kitchen will fill with that classic bakery aroma. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  6. Prepare the Chocolate Glaze: In a bowl, whisk powdered sugar, cocoa powder, melted butter, vanilla, and milk until smooth and glossy. Adjust milk for desired consistency.
  7. Dip and Set: Once donuts are slightly cooled, dip the tops into the chocolate glaze. Place them on a rack and allow the glaze to set. The shiny coating is what makes Chocolate Glazed Donuts truly irresistible.
