- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 2 tablespoons strawberry jam
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon water or milk
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unfold the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut out heart shapes with a cookie cutter.
- Place the hearts on the prepared baking sheet and lightly score a smaller heart inside each one, leaving a border.
- Mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest until smooth.
- Spoon the cream cheese filling into the center of each pastry heart, staying inside the scored border.
- Arrange sliced strawberries over the cream cheese filling.
- Whisk the egg with water or milk, then brush the pastry borders with the egg wash.
- Bake for 14 to 18 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
- Warm the strawberry jam slightly and brush it over the strawberries for shine.
- Cool for 5 to 10 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and serve.
